The Big Power Outage

We had a huge windstorm here on the Eastern Seaboard last Friday and Saturday, and the wind knocked out power for us personally around 5:25 am on Friday. It wasn't restored until Sunday night, and then the internet and TV services were out, so I've been bereft of news of the outside world until last night.

Also, with no power to keep the house warm, we had to retreat to the basement where we have a wood burning stove. It was very confusing for our cat, who couldn't understand why the house was dark and cold. But we managed, as we always do in an extended outage.

So I set up a little makeshift easel in our one warm room, and did just a bit of painting over the weekend.

Filled in a lot of the rooftop detail just above the brownstones in the foreground.

Determined that the basic color of the building itself (at least in this instance) is Cerulean Blue; brushed on a quick layer to establish it. The buildings around it will be darker.

Needless to say, there is a lot of catching up to do, and I guess I won't make it to the gym today, either. But it is a friend's birthday, so I will pay her a quick visit with flowers and then get back to work.
