After, And Before

Two views of a work in progress. The top one is where the painting is now, the lower one is at an earlier point when I thought it was hopeless. I've seen many an artist who can expertly handle the vivid colors of the sunrise/sunset skies, and just as many who use lurid color and fail. I think I'm in the latter category most of the time when I try to do one of these... but anyway, after a lot of intense observation and repainting, it looks halfway decent.
