Every year I try to get this Christmas-themed painting done before November in the hope that I can show it somewhere; this year, that seems less likely, but I'm putting the effort into it anyway. It's been very disappointing. I see it in my mind's eye one way, but the paint doesn't assist me in that regard.
From a distance, it looks wonderful, with a lot of charm; up close, it looks sloppy and the brush strokes seem chaotic.
