The walls in the background were just too bright; luminous almost. I'm in the process of toning them down so they're not so jarring. It'll take a couple more sessions to get the gradual change that I want, from light to shadow, and eliminate the streakiness you see here.

And next, I have to fix the greyness on the face. It looked so good the last time I worked on it but then the paint dried and all of the color drained out.
