After a short hiatus, I was ready to pick up the brushes today. Unfortunately, the brushes refuse to cooperate and will not produce a hard edged line, so tomorrow I shall have to go buy replacements.
Anyway, I was able to wash in some larger, looser areas on both of the paintings below:

I know the face looks lopsided; I will fix it next time around.
