The Chair, © 2020, work in progress (click on image for larger view)
This is a blog about painting: specifically, representational fine art, generally, using oil paint. I think a lot about what I'm doing, and those thoughts about subject matter, technique, influences, frustrations and delights all show up here. It's all about the journey.

Striving For Realism
After reviewing the tutorials and the other information I've gathered over the last year regarding flesh tones, I sat down at the easel today and focused on one of the girls in The Chair. I think the working session was productive; she looks more realistic than any of the others in the painting. And that's what I've been working toward: I'm always disappointed by the fact that the people in my paintings look more like mannequins than real people. Taking a break now— found it stressful to try to figure out the difference in colors between rosy flesh tones, highlights, and deeper bone structure.
